Workplace Drug Use Statistics

Drug and alcohol use in the workplace carries heavy and far reaching consequences. Alcohol and drug abuse by employees causes expensive problems, as well as serious safety concerns.  These additional costs range from lost productivity, workplace accidents and injuries, employee absenteeism, low morale, and increased illness. Companies also must divert precious company resources, that could be used for other purposes, toward addressing substance abuse issues.

The National Drug Free Work Alliance provides statistics broken down by industry, regarding substance use and dependence or abuse. Unfortunately the statistics show no industry is immune to drug and alcohol abuse. You can view the report by following the link below.

Implementing a consistent drug and alcohol screening policy, is the best way to protect your employees and company against these issues.  Such testing programs provide boundaries and accountability, working to minimize the amount of substance abuse problems within the workplace.
